This years project is to illustrate Leonie Norrington's book called "Flight of the Termidors." It is all about termites and the microcosmic world they live in. I love it because it unravels their hidden world and has broadened my understanding of them, of their well organised society and the amazing structures they build.

The thumbnails and rough illustrations are now complete and yesterday I started the actual painting for it. SO FUN! Leonie is an absolute pleasure to work with and it is pure JOY to be able to embark on this journey with her. Leonie has been published 13 times so I am in good hands! For me it will be the 1st book I will have illustrated, depite going to uni all those years ago to specialise in this field! The time is right!

We will be exhibiting the original works in September at Tactile Arts, Darwin. Next month Sun July 14th is the Craft Fair. Leonie and I will be in my studio (opposite the Tactile ARTS office/gallery) with a display of the book process...ie the story, my thumbnails/ roughs and if I stop blogging....a couple of finished artworks : ) You will also be able to buy my range of cards, prints on canvas and originals. Leonie will be selling her books....if you're really nice to her she might even sign one for you, coz she's a famous "philim star" you know : ) Feel free to pop in and have a chat....it's all very EXCITING! xxx Marnie
