Marnie Jay is a Top End Australian artist with a background in illustration and graphic design.
Mentored by Tony Oliver "The Bird Man" who was an Australian Geographic Illustrator. She was inspired by his job of going bush for months to sketch & paint Australian birds that would be later be printed & published. Marnie spent her early professional life working in a multitude of advertising agencies, media outlets like Channel Nine Television and art institutions like The Museum & Art Galleries NT. She freelanced for 10 years to eventually become a full time artist. She received the Award for “Best Graduating Illustrator” at University of Western Sydney, Nepean 1995 and was a short listed finalist in the NT Local Business Awards 2025. Her works are predominantly inspired by nature and wildlife. Birds and dingoes are a hot favourite. Some works capture a moment in time or perhaps stem from a treasured memory. She also enjoys capturing the quirk of heritage buildings & characteristic tropical design of Northern Australia. She uses humour, vibrant natural colour with a unique style to create works of wonder and joy. She paints 4 days a week in her bush studio and has a shop open weekends 10-3 at Coolalinga Central, rural Darwin, Northern Territory. |
